Findlay Toyota Flagstaff

There’s a first time for everything. The experience I’m going to talk about is, about me and a friend who almost getting stuck out in the woods.

It was a bright warm day in southern Utah. It was our day off and we wanted to try out my friends 4×4 on his 92 Tacoma. We were only 18 at the time and nothing was better than hanging out with friends during the summer.

We decided that we wanted to head out to the Nevada/Utah Beaver Dam Mountains and try out our luck with the outdoors. Toyota Tacoma vs the wild. We had nothing but free time and the open road that day. A day with no responsibilities, no worries and a full tank of gas.

We got gas, energy drinks, water and some gummy sharks from the local gas station that was around before I was born. We got onto the road and started to head out of the city limits. We reached the boarders of the houses and soon the city scape was nothing but a view behind us.

We drove about an hour outside last house we saw. We were driving on the long windy road that lead into the mountains. You could feel the air get colder, the air smelt crisp and cleaner. You could hear nothing but the wind and the music from our ridiculously loud bass.

My friends Tacoma had a lift and aggressive big wheels. Every turn we hit the truck would sway and lean into the turn because the high center of gravity. Soon we saw a road that lead off the pavement with some tire tracks. We thought to ourselves that someone else had made it, so we can too. So we turned off to the worn track. We kept driving as fast as we could deeper into the mountain. We hit every bump, hill and hole evermore violently as we kept picking up speed.

Eventually we got to the point to where there was no more trail and it was untouched area. We jumped out of the Tacoma and looked at the hill to see if we could make it. I questioned our ability to drive it up the steep hill. My friend through the Tacoma into 4 wheel drive and we backed up to give ourselves some momentum. He hit the gas pedal and we through ourselves at the hill. We made it up half way with no problem but about ¾ the way up we started to struggle. He threw it into a lower gear but we started to dig in and the truck started to swing back and forth. It was my first time seeing the Tacoma redline but we were so close to the top. Eventually we had to back down and the Tacoma started to slide backwards. We started to slide down sideways to the bottom of the hill.

My friend tried to steer it back to where it was going down straight but we built too much speed. I grabbed the front of the dash ready to flip over but luckily for us we made it to the bottom. The first thing my friend asked was “Should we try it again?” I said no without any hesitation. Then we had to put the vehicle back into 2 wheel drive and unlock the wheels from 4×4. After we unlocked the tires we had to find our way back since we were completely lost. But I’ll end this story about the Tacoma vs the hill here.

This Wednesday the Findlay Auto Group will be giving away a 2015 Camry to the winner of the teacher of the year. Every day our local teachers wake up, get ready, drive to the schools and set up their classroom waiting for the students. The teachers get to teach young eager minds who are ready to learn. The teachers are molding the minds of tomorrow because they will be our future doctors, attorneys and engineers.

We here at Findlay Toyota want to show our appreciation for our local teachers by helping add to the grand prize, for the teacher of the year. Findlay Toyota will be giving away a 2015 Camry wrapped in the teacher of the year decal for the teacher to drive for a year.

We are proud to be sponsors for the Coconino County Teacher of the Year award and we are proud to give away a 2015 Camry to the lucky winner. It’s our way of showing appreciation to the teachers of Coconino County. Stay tuned to see who will win the Camry on Wednesday.

Mirai Fuel Cell

We are seeing a new step of technology this day and age. We are seeing humanity rely less and less on fossil fuels. We are entering a new chapter for humanity.

The evolution of vehicles has come a long way since the beginning. When Toyota first started making vehicles back in 1937 they were just a small factory dwarf by the big automotive companies at the time. When Kiichiro Toyoda first started Toyota automotive he had a dream to build a lost cost quality built vehicle.

Toyoda believed in tactics like ‘Just in Time’ which we still use to this day. Over the decades Toyota grew from a small automotive shop who struggled during World War II on the brink of bankruptcy to the number one seller of vehicles world wide.

The evolutions of the automotive industry have been drastic over the past few decades. We have designed and implemented ABS braking system, Air Conditioning, Seat belts, electric power steering, Variable Value Timing and many more features since the birth of the automotive vehicle. We have come a long way since the 1920’s and we will continue to evolve the automobile.

Of recent years Toyota has come out with the Prius, the pinnacle of Hybrid Technology. Followed by the all-electric Rav4 and soon the Mirai.

The Mirai is Toyota’s newest edition which will change automobiles forever. We are on the verge of new technology and we get to see this new technology come to life. This new technology is the Mirai Hydrogen Fuel Cell. The Mirai Fuel Cell vehicle runs on hydrogen and its only bi-product is Water. With this new technology we will see more advances in the Mirai but we are on the horizon of a new chapter for humanity.

I’d like to take a moment to talk about our furry family members.

One thing we love here, is pets. Almost all our team members have pets. From cats to dogs to horses. I have 2 cats at home who seem to get into more trouble than I like. Growing up I had a few cats and 2 dogs. My first cat was named Spoosie. He was an orange tabby cat who was an alley cat.

I remember one day he just appeared. The orange tabby cat had no name and was very dirty. My parents didn’t like playing with the cat or that we tried to feed it milk and food. But somehow I knew when I was 4 that taking care of the cat was a good thing to do. Later my older brother named him Spoosie, and we still have no idea how we came up with that name.

Spoosie spent the next 2 years catching lizards and bringing them to our doorstep. I knew Spoosie went hunting the night before because my mom would scream in the morning from Spoosie’s ‘gift’. I also remember Spoosie taught me a very valuable lesson. Never try to give an alley cat a bath. I was armed with my bar of soap, paper towel and a puddle in our front drive way. Spoosie got the best of 4 year old me but I still remember that day to this day. We went to my grandparents house for 2 weeks to visit them but when we came back Spoosie was no where to be found.

Spoosie had left us as quickly as he appeared. Spoosie was probably around 10 years old at the time we got him. We got the neighborhood kids together and formed a search party. But we never saw Spoosie again.

I’m in college now, getting an education to become a supreme court judge. But Spoosie still has a spot in my heart.

One of the local Charities that we sponsor is the Paws Placement. They help so many animals in our community. From getting pets adopted to taking in animals to training animals to be family friendly.

Think Tank

Findlay Toyota Think Tank

We always think to ourselves, how can we better improve our guest experience here at Findlay Toyota Flagstaff. One of the ways we keep improving, is we hold a “Think Tank” meeting. We gather employees and team members. We sit all of us down and talk about how we can enrich our guest experience.

One of the ideas that came out of the Think Tank meetings was implementing the kids tablets for our guest use, free of charge. We wanted to put games on the tablets that would build the kids creativity and puzzle solving skills. Sometimes we think that technology is used just for entertainment or to “kill time”. We can use this free time when you are waiting for your service on your vehicle for the better. We see it as an opportunity to not only better ourselves, but better our community.

Another idea that came out of the Think Tank was announcing of the Charity of the Month. Last year we donated over 250,000 to local charities but some of people were unaware how involved in our community we really are. One of our team members told us we should be making our loyal guest more aware. For the month of April we are giving to the American Red Cross of Flagstaff and it’s just one of the charities we are giving for this month.

This month we are sponsoring the Palette to Palate for Coconino Community College, The American Red Cross, The Shelter Service for Flagstaff, and the Second Runway fashion show for Goodwill of Northern Arizona. These are the charities we are donating to, for the local community.

We have had many great ideas come out of our Think Tank but the tablets and the Charity of the Month have been our most recent ones. We believe if we want to have the best outcome we need people from different backgrounds and different problem solving skills.

How do you think we can keep improving your experience, the guest experience? We are always up for new ideas and guest feedback is great.

Our nation was built not just on the idea of one person but on the collective minds of many.

Ultimate Tailgating Tundra

Ultimate Tail Gating Tundra

Ultimate Tailgating Tundra

You hear us talk about the Friendly Findlay Experience. You come to the dealership. You get freshly baked cookies, massages on the weekends, recyclable cups, complimentary car washes and kid’s tablets for your kids to use. One thing we have been having difficulty with is bringing the Friendly Findlay Experience to you, outside the walls of our dealership.

No longer will that be an issue with our new Ultimate Tailgating Tundra in the works. Together Findlay Toyota and Findlay Customs have teamed up together to bring you the Friendly Findlay Experience to you. This won’t be cookies baking or kids tablets but it will be a whole other experience. If you are a fan of BBQ’s grilling out with friends or just enjoy a great atmosphere. Then the Ultimate Tailgating Tundra is for you.

We will be introducing the Ultimate Tundra at the Overland Expo next month May 15th – 17th.

I don’t want to give away too much information for what we have in store but it will be something new to Flagstaff. We know Flagstaff can jump into some mud, be environmentally friendly and be an example for other cities. All within our community.

We want to keep giving back to the community, who continues to give to us.
