Arizona Gives Day is a collaboration that began in 2013 between the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits and Arizona Grantmakers Forum. It is a statewide, 24-hour, online giving campaign that takes place the first Tuesday of April each year. The program is supported by our presenting sponsor FirstBank, along with a variety of other sponsor organizations. This event helps people find, learn about and contribute to the causes they believe in. Arizona Gives Day also enables nonprofits to share their stories and engage the community through a unique online giving platform. Though Arizona Gives Day only happens once a year, this website is available for year-round giving with the purpose of building the spirit of philanthropy throughout Arizona's communities. Any qualified 501c3 organization is welcome to register, and any donor is welcome to create a login to keep track of their Arizona Gives donations throughout the year. Join us and invest in Arizona! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and for the entire month of October the Flagstaff Findlay Automotive Group will be raising money for the Well Woman Healthcheck Program through North Country Healthcare. We will donate $25 for every vehicle purchased, and $1 will be donated for every repair order created. These much needed funds will go towards helping low income, under-insured and uninsurable women to gain access to prevention screening and diagnostic services for br east cancer. With your help, we were able help over 1,000 women in our community in 2015. Everyone has been affected by cancer, either through your own personal fight or through someone you love. We would like to take the time to congratulate Brian Locke of Coconino High School in Flagstaff, AZ on winning the prestigious Teacher of the Year award. It's a prize to us and our community to have a person like Brian Locke as a custodian of our children's future. This year's Teacher of the Year event illustrated just how important it is to have the dedicated educators Flagstaff and Coconino County have, and more importantly, how much support they need from us. Locke said he was honored to be nominated with the other two finalists, who he said work in challenging conditions, teaching kindergarten and middle school, every day. “My heart goes out to those folks,” he said.
